New Book from Oeconomus: Hungary’s 20 Years in the European Union

We are pleased to present the latest publication of the Oeconomus Economic Research Foundation, now available in major bookstores across Hungary!

The book titled “Hungary’s 20 Years in the European Union” provides a comprehensive analysis of the economic, social, and political impacts of Hungary’s two decades of EU membership. The book sheds light on the achievements, challenges, and future opportunities during Hungary’s membership, with expert analyses. It particularly focuses on Hungary’s role in the European Union’s production chains and the economic effects of the euro. It also provides an in-depth discussion on migration challenges and their social impacts, while offering a profound analysis of the EU’s future vision and strategic directions. Special attention is given to the transformation of Hungary’s agriculture, which has undergone significant changes since joining the EU, highlighting both the advantages and lessons learned from membership.

At the book launch of “Hungary’s 20 Years in the European Union”, Enikő Győri, Member of the European Parliament, emphasized that our publication helps reflect on Hungary’s twenty years of EU membership amidst “highly heated political discourse” and seeks answers for future opportunities. She added: “There is no question that our natural place is within the European Union, and the alternative outside the Union is not recommended for anyone.”

Ádám Csepeti, Deputy State Secretary for Strategic Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office, in his opening speech, highlighted that overall, Hungary has benefited from EU membership, which should be valued. However, he also stressed that it is important to acknowledge the weakening global influence and the political and economic challenges the EU faces. He added that the community is constantly confronted with challenges, and defining those challenges and finding solutions were key points of Hungary’s second presidency of the EU. Among these was the differing handling of demographic issues and migration challenges, which the EU will need to pay special attention to in the future.

The latest publication of the Oeconomus Economic Research Foundation is now available in major bookstores across Hungary. This well-crafted publication is an essential read for anyone who wants to understand Hungary’s position and role in the European Union, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
